Exhibition – JULIE CANARELLI “U RIBOMBU DI I LOCHI: THE ECHO OF PLACES” Bastia Museum – 24 April to 29 May 2026
Impressions and memories of Salvatore Viale’s travels in Italy – Impressioni e ricordi dei viaggi di Salvatore Viale in Italia
The exhibition brings together a previously unseen photographic series by Julie Canarelli, a visual artist based in Corsica. Through a dialogue between 19th-century literary archives and contemporary landscapes, the artist explores themes of memory, territory and the Mediterranean’s intangible heritage.
Taking as her starting point the travel journals of Salvatore Viale — a 19th-century intellectual figure from Bastia — Julie Canarelli set out to photograph the places mentioned in these writings as they exist today, in major Italian cities: Florence, Padua, Bologna, Venice and Rome.
